By utilizing qualitative and quantitative data, teachers gain insights into their students’ needs and abilities. This data allows them to identify specific areas where students require additional support or enrichment. By incorporating this data into lesson planning, teachers can differentiate instruction to meet the individual needs of their students.
For this assessment, assume you are a mentor teacher. You are demonstrating for your new teacher mentee how to interpret student assessment data and create differentiated instruction for specific students to ensure each student is appropriately challenged and supported.
To prepare for this assessment, do the following:
Access the We Rise Unified School District website and complete the following steps:
Select a level of education (i.e., elementary, middle school, or high school).
Review the list of student profiles for your selected education level, specifically looking for a variety of needs.
Select 3 different students with varying needs to be the focus students of your instructional plan.
Analyze your focus students’ information in the Math Results Spreadsheet and the Reading Results Spreadsheet.
Locate a detailed lesson plan in the content area of your choice that aligns with the students’ grade level. You may use a lesson plan you created (if it aligns to the grade level) or one that you found on the internet.
Complete the Targeted Instructional Plan Template. Follow the instructions in the template to create differentiated instruction for your selected lesson plan that meets the needs of your 3 focus students based on their assessment data and needs analysis.
